El primer año (Español)
Cuando llegué a Inglaterra... tenía veintidós años.When I arrived in England... I was twenty-two years old.
Era la primera vez que vivía fuera de España.It was the first time I had lived outside Spain.
Y... la verdad... echaba de menos muchas cosas.And... honestly... I missed many things.
Echaba de menos el sol de Valencia.I missed the sun of Valencia.
Echaba de menos la comida de mi madre.I missed my mother's cooking.
Echaba de menos... el ruido.I missed... the noise.
En Valencia, la calle siempre hace ruido.In Valencia, the street is always noisy.
Aquí en Inglaterra... todo era muy silencioso.Here in England... everything was very quiet.
Pero lo más difícil... no era el frío.But the hardest thing... wasn't the cold.
Lo más difícil era el idioma.The hardest thing was the language.
La burbuja
Llevaba meses viviendo en Inglaterra... y todavía no entendía nada.I had been living in England for months... and I still didn't understand anything.
¿Por qué?Why?
Porque vivía en una burbuja española.Because I lived in a Spanish bubble.
Mis amigos... todos eran españoles.My friends... they were all Spanish.
Hablaba español en casa.I spoke Spanish at home.
Hablaba español en el bar.I spoke Spanish at the bar.
Hablaba español con los profesores.I spoke Spanish with the teachers.
El único momento que usaba el inglés era... en clase.The only moment I used English was... in class.
Y en clase... me las apañé.And in class... I managed.
No entendía nada... pero me las apañé para abrir la cuenta, para comprar, para sobrevivir.I didn't understand anything... but I managed to open the bank account, to shop, to survive.
El momento de darse cuenta
Al final del año... me di cuenta de algo.At the end of the year... I realized something.
Había vivido un año entero en Inglaterra.I had lived a whole year in England.
Y mi inglés... casi igual que antes.And my English... almost the same as before.
Me di cuenta de que había perdido el tiempo.I realized I had wasted my time.
No el tiempo de vivir... sino el tiempo de aprender.Not the time of living... but the time of learning.
Vivir en un país no es suficiente.Living in a country is not enough.
Tienes que salir de la burbuja.You have to get out of the bubble.
El segundo año
El segundo año... fue diferente.The second year... was different.
Decidí no hablar español fuera de casa.I decided not to speak Spanish outside the house.
Me atreví a hablar con gente nueva.I dared to speak with new people.
Me atreví a equivocarme.I dared to make mistakes.
Y entonces... empecé a aprender de verdad.And then... I really started to learn.
